Viper AlleyViper Alley | Chicago, IL, 2011
What It Was
The pulsing beat in the night air around Lincolnshire, IL, is not a portent of alien invasion, or seismic unrest. It is the musical rhythm emanating from the kinetic and innovative new nightclub, Viper Alley. This concert venue and cutting-edge nightspot is the brainchild of Scott Greenburg, creator of both the CityPark complex in Lincolnshire and Chicago’s sophisticated theWit Hotel. Viper Alley, which opened March 10, 2011, is an enticing addition to CityPark, and the must-see destination in the northern suburbs.
What We Did
Having already participated in designs for theWit Hotel and CityPark, it was natural to be brought in to lend our creative insights to Viper Alley. Commissioned to create both architectural and entertainment lighting, we used the opportunity to conceive an entire environment in the atmosphere of an old warehouse, producing an ambiance of mood and movement that helped define the venue’s personality.
Why It Worked
By drawing on the combined strengths of Lightswitch and Lightswitch Architectural, we assured ourselves an innovative and cohesive design. Ever conscious of code and sustainability, we designed an energy-conservative system for the stage that allowed it to be lit entirely with LED’s, cutting dramatically the power needs to the concert area. And working in a design/ supply fashion with our electrical distributer Evergreen Oak Electric, and theatrical lighting distributer Intelligent Lighting Creations, we maximized our design budget to keep project costs under control.
