What It Was

Naperville’s aging, 1980s-era Holiday Inn received more than just a new name when it became the Marriott—it got a makeover. Solomon Cordwell Buenz Architecture led the renovation, which included restructuring the first floor and adding new building systems throughout the 500-room facility.

What We Did

Lightswitch Architectural partnered with general contractor Peak Construction to relight the 50,000-sq ft first floor—including the lobby, banquet room, two conference rooms, eight meeting rooms and a grand ballroom—as well as the common spaces, parking lot and façade for the six-story building. Our selective use of energy-efficient sources and DALI controls resulted in a fresh, flexible lighting solution that was ideal for the multi-use space and met the client’s LEED Silver certification goal.

Why It Worked

By using a DALI-based control system, we were able to integrate low-voltage control of each light source without altering the existing electrical infrastructure, offering a substantial savings to the client. And by managing product procurement from electrical distributor Evergreen Oak, we ensured that the Marriott got the highest quality products at the lowest possible prices.
