What It WasThe Larchmont Towers Condo Association wanted to update the look of their clock tower. They asked Lightswitch to design a solution to light the face of the clock, without distracting from the beauty of the original masonry. What We DidThe clock face was solid stone, so it could not be lit from behind. There was no way we were going to attach unattractive fixtures to the front of the building. In addition, Lightswitch is a member of the International Dark Sky Association, so we are very conscious of not directing light into the night sky. The solution was fiber optics. We worked with Fiber Optic Studios to create a bright and even light, with a low profile, to surround the clock face. Why It WorkedAs you can see, the clock face appears to glow from within. There is very little impact on the tower from the casing for the fiber optics. Low power consumption, low impact on the building design, and no wasted light makes this project an example of an intelligent lighting solution. | |||||||||||||
