Empress Casino
Empress Casino | Elgin, IL, 2008What It Was
The Empress Casino, in Joliet, Illinois, was in desperate need of a technical and visual overhaul of its outdoor and entrance lighting. Most fixtures were flooded with water, corroded, or broken. The look was unattractive, unexciting, and made inefficient use of energy.
What We Did
Lightswitch created an outdoor light show which changed the look of the exterior and entrance hall. LED color displays and effects were programmed to change during the course of the week, on holidays, and for themed rentals (sports teams, company colors, red and black, etc.). The system can be easily programmed for new displays using solid state controls. The user can also locally override the automated program to satisfy current needs.
Why It Worked
By using solid state technologies, the new system requires half the energy to run. The system also requires minimal staff time to maintain, and little expertise to change the programs. The light show creates an air of excitement and sense of arrival around the casino. It creates an interesting, dynamic, and enjoyable invitation to the visitor to come in and have a good time. The owners are thrilled with the new look and the money they are saving in energy costs.
