What It WasThe Client had outgrown their former office. They needed a space to work, meet, entertain clients, and showcase products which would reflect the quality of their products while providing inviting and comfortable office areas. The company started to investigate green business practices, but abandoned the LEED certification process for their office when costs were calculated. However, the designer was directed to be as energy efficient as possible, within the very tight budget. The office is located in the old Montgomery Wards catalog building, which has a landmarked façade and a dense column grid. What We DidLightswitch Architectural took a theatrical spin on the office; columns are spot-lighted, multiple track luminaires can be adjusted for different effects in the main hallway, the lighting in the product display room can be adjusted to show the effects of different store lighting on their product displays. Why It WorkedLightswitch Architectural gave the client’s new loft-like office space a clean, techy look which augments the company’s branding. Using only a few types of energy efficient luminaires simplifies maintenance and reduces costs. The clean, simple lighting helps the space feel organized, with the focus on people and products. The lighting solution achieved energy efficiency and flexibility on a first class level within a coach class budget. | |||||||||||||
